Cuetec Smart Extension Review

I have a Cuetec Cynergy playing cue that’s a few years old now. I admit, I prefer my wood Lucasi cue for everyday shooting, but I keep my Cuetec as a spare. Since using a bridge tends to make my cue ball control unreliable, I decided to grab a pool cue extender to use for those shots that are only slightly out of reach. Enter the Cuetec Smart Extension, which made our list of the best pool cue extenders. Mine is in Ruby Red with a satin finish, which does not match my cue, but does make it much easier not to confuse mine with anyone else’s.

The extension is kiln dried maple and weighs in at about 4.5 ounces. It seamlessly fits my Cynergy cue with the 3/8×14 pin, and the extension is 6 inches long. Which is about all I can reach across the table physically without a bridge anyway, so it works great for those shots that are just slightly out of reach where you could shoot it without a bridge, but not with stability in your shot.

It takes a little getting used to when it comes to shooting with an extender. It does add a little weight to the cue, and just because you can reach a shot without a bridge doesn’t make it the same as shooting a shot you can easily reach without one. But I still prefer it over using a typical bridge if it puts me within realistic reach.

I use this most when playing on bar boxes or 7 footers where six inches can almost give you access anywhere on the table. I’ve been using this for around a year now, and it has held up, minus a few little scratches to the end with the pin where the extender meets my cue. I also admit that I keep it with multiple other items in a pocket on my case and don’t exactly “baby” the finish.

That said, it’s typically priced between $50-60 dollars depending on the retailer and the supply, which is a little pricey for something that doesn’t really give me any extra quality or oompf because it’s a Cuetec. But, I’ve been unable to find any extensions with a better price that fit a cue extender 3/8×14 opening in the Cynergy. So, while a little expensive, it’s something I’d buy again.
