Review: Aramith Pure Phenolic Pool Ball Set – Tournament Edition

When it comes to choosing a set of balls for your pool table, I don’t need to convince avid players that you get what you pay for. I have a 7 foot diamond at my house and after some searching, I decided on the Aramith Pure Phenolic Regulation Pool Ball Set in the Tournament Edition. I have zero regrets.

I’ve been putting these balls through heavy use for six months now, and they still look as good as the day I unboxed them. Here’s a little bit of them in action:

My verdict?

The product claims to be “made with durable resin formulation, a hi-tech engineered molecular structure that enhances the longevity of the balls while minimizing significantly table cloth wear” – and in my opinion, they’re not lying. I want great balls, but I also want balls that are going to be gentle on my Diamond and make the need for re-felting it have as much space between each time as possible. As for their claim that these balls can “reach up to 40 years in residential use”? You’ll have to check back in 2065 for the update.

The balls are supposed to be burn spot resistant and high-impact resistant. I break hard and as I said earlier, after six months of heavy use, I’ve seen no marks on the balls. The optimal rebound makes drawing a dream. In fact, my only complaint about these balls is that after playing with them, they make the balls in the bars and pool halls feel like I am shooting with subpar equipment.

If the Aramith Pure Phenolic Tournament Edition carries too high a price tag for you, check out their Premium Edition version. I have a few friends using these, and they have no complaints.
